For example, I live in Southern Africa and keep the natural African Bee commonly found in my garden area. This African Bee will not go out of its way to attack you but is more easily provoked than the European Honeybee. The African honey bee is among the most well-known and economically beneficial bees producing a fair amount of honey, being very hard workers. The European Honeybee will also split and swarm in season, leaving you with honeybees in your beehive.
In the Americas the Africanized hybrid honey bees are more temperamental, and known to be more dangerous as they would go out of their way to attack you with very little provocation. Unless you are allergic to bee stings, it would normally take about three hundred stings to be fatal. If a swarm comes for you run for your life. Diving into water will not help as they will wait for you to surface and zap you. Most humans can outrun a swarm of bees or you could run into an enclosed area. The Africanized hybrid honey bee also swarms more frequently than other bees and the whole colony may leave.
In conclusion stick to the honey bee that is natural for your area. This way you will avoid unwanted problems. It is best not to consider this hobby if you are allergic to bees. They might be small but they have the potential to kill. Treat them with the respect that is due to them and in turn they will not feel threatened by you.
